I think I'm overdue to write on here:) Sawyer just turned 9 months old last week, so I think that is way too much ground to cover so I'll just tell a couple of recent stories:)
We had a great time going back home with mom and dad after Thanksgiving. We stayed 2 weeks and they were a busy 2 weeks, but were great! It was so nice seeing everyone and we were able to hear mom sing in the cantata, which we missed last year. We stayed 2 weeks b/c Don had to go to a school. We really missed him. I would show Sawyer a picture of Don at my parents and he would smile:) We drove back Saturday and were very glad to see Don when we got home (that is Va). It has taken me a year, but now I do call this my home. However, when I refer to H'ville, I say "back home." It was late that night, but we wanted Don to see all the things Sawyer had learned to do in the two weeks. He showed Don how he can wave on demand (doesn't do it as much anymore), clap, and cruise the furniture. It was a big 2 weeks for Sawyer that Don was sad he had missed but was excited to see his new "moves." He still isn't crawling forward and does not enjoy being on his belly much anymore now that he has found furniture walking. I still wish he would crawl so he could get to where he wanted to cruise. Now, that's my job:)
It was bedtime and in the past, I have always been the one to read to Sawyer before bed. We have changed it up and when Don is home, he reads to Sawyer and I sit on the floor. It is a nice, quiet, family time. Well, Don had bought Sawyer a Christmas book while he was gone and he read it to Sawyer. It brought tears to my eyes b/c Sawyer looked at Don basically the whole time Don was reading to him and just kept smiling. It is a moment I will treasure.
Speaking of smiling....I think going to H'ville turned Sawyer into a Ham!:) He has always been a smiley little boy, but now he smiles at someone even if they aren't looking at him. It is quite funny and it makes me smile. We were in Target yesterday and he smiled at everyone. Some people would see it and talk to him, but some didn't. I leaned down and whispered that it's ok if everyone doesn't smile back:)
This has been an interesting weather and heat week nonetheless. It has snowed twice here this week and I have absolutely loved it! On Thursday, the snow came down beautifully and fast. Our neighbor girls (elementary and middle schoolers) came over and played with Sawyer and then went to build him a snowman in our backyard. They aren't use to the snow and it showed when they headed out with their regular clothes on, bedroom slippers, and no gloves. I dressed them for snow and they said, "man, we want to live in the mountains!" It was fun for them and fun for me. When they came in, I made them hot chocolate, mac and cheese and had baked a graham cracker dessert (that didn't turn out how the picture looked). Sawyer enjoyed watching them from the window, but got bored after a while.
We had lost heat Monday afternoon for a little bit but it came back on later that night. Tuesday night, however, it was blowing out cold air. Don was actually home that night, so that was good. We put the space heater in Sawyer's room and we slept under the down comforter. I dreaded getting out from under it! Wednesday morning, the house was around 52 or 54 and it was COLD! I fixed Sawyer's breakfast and rolled his highchair into his room. I think he was very confused why we did that and why we stayed in his room all morning. The heat guys came around 10:30. A couple hundred dollars later, it was fixed. Until......Thursday night (when Don wasn't home), it went out again. I was NOT happy. Mom suggested that I turn the oven on in the kitchen to get warm air in there for Friday morning. That plan worked, so that morning we had a warm kitchen (we have doors to close off the kitchen) and Sawyer's room. The guys came back around 11 and it was something that they didn't do when fixing it the first time. I told them thanks and Merry Christmas and I hope I don't see you before then!!!
I have officially been a military wife for a little over the year now. What I have learned is that I have to go with the flow and unfortunately to expect the worse and be excited if the good happens (mostly with schedules). For example, we had Sawyer's baptism planned and to go back home for a long weekend. That week, Don's captain told him he needed to stay. We also thought we had the Christmas break off, but then found out when Don changed departments, his break also changed to the New Years break. Then, this week, he called Wednesday evening and said he won't be coming home until Sunday morning. So, rather than getting upset, I've just had to go with it. Now, I'm not saying I wasn't disappointed with all these things, it was just how I reacted to them. He actually did get to come home that Wednesday night and he just walked in the door and it's Saturday night! Christmas break is going to work out.....Linsday and John Chris are flying here Wednesday and mom and dad will drive in the night before. We will spend time with them Wednesday and then they will all head to H'ville on Thursday for their Christmas. It will be the first time one of us has missed Christmas. I figured it would be John Chris before me. I'm just glad we have a plan to see one another!
So, I would keep writing, but since Don just got home, I'm going to spend some time with him!
The picture was taken on Thanksgiving Day, when Sawyer and I went to meet Don on the ship to eat our meal:)
